Formerly rather scarce but now quite common. Breeding

2009: 29/5: 1 teneral at Dragonfly pool; 2/6: 3 on Boilton Marsh including one ovipositing; 14/6: one male; 2/7: one male at Quicksand pool north; 23/7: one male.

2010: 12/6: 2 males; 20/6: 22 seen (21 male, one female); 3/7: 2 males; 12/8: one male. The previous highest count for this species was 5, whether these 22 were from a successful breeding season in 2009 or migrants pushing north is unclear but perhaps a combination of both.

 

2011: 30/4: one teneral was the earliest at Brockholes by 2 weeks; 1/5: one; 3/6: one at the Dragonfly pool; 14/6: two at Boilton Marsh; 26/6: 2 tenerals; 1/7: near the Ribble feeding station.

2012: 28/5: Dragonfly pool (2); 1/6: Dipping pool (1); 18/6: Site unrecorded (2); 3/7: Boilton Marsh (1); 7/7: Fishing pool (1 male); 9/7: Boilton wood margin (1 female); 12/7: Fishing pool (1); 15/7: entrance to Boilton Wood (1 female).

2013: 6/6: No.1 pool outlet (1); 9/6: Q-s pool (1m + 1f); 17/6: Q-s pools (2m); 21/6: Fishing pool (2m): 24/6: Middle layby/meadow pool (1); 25/6: Q-s pool (3m); 26/6: Q-s pool  (2m); 29/6: Boilton Wood (1m); 30/6: Allen’s pool (1); 1/7: N of Fishing pool (1m); near Woodland path (2m + 2f); 4/7: Boilton Wood (1m + 1f); N of Fishing pool (1m); 5/7: M6 track and Fishing pool (4); Q-s pool (1m); 6/7: Dipping pool (2f); 7/7: Boilton marsh (2m + 1f); Q-s pool (2m); Hairstreak stile (2f); Boilton Marsh (3 incl 1 ovipos); 8/7: Fishing Pool/Q-s area (1); 16/7: Boilton  Marsh (1m); Hairstreak stile (1f); 19/7: N shore No.1 pool (12).
